Dolly-Parton
Dolly Parton, born Jan. 19th, 1946 in Locust Ridge Tenn. to a family of 12 poor children that would be raised in the same household, figured out very early on how to conquer of difficulties by using her rich and vivid imagination. Before she could write and read, she had already composed her own songs. When she got her first guitar at age 8, she started performing on radio stations in Knoxville, Tennessee. Gold Band Records is a small, independent label. While in high school, she made herself known to the school community but her dream was greater. On the very day she graduated the high school in 1964. Dumb Blonde (both 1967) as well as Something Fishy were among her first Monument Records chart-topping records. At about this time Porter Wagoner was looking for a new girl singer for the show he had syndicated to television. Parton took the job in 1966. She then joined RCA Records in 1968, and then the Grand Ole Opry was founded in 1969. The show ended in 1974, as her own releases such as Joshua Coat of Many Colors and Jolene were charting collaborations with them. After their split, Parton wrote the song I Will Always Love You for Wagoner and it debuted at No. 1. for the first time in 1974.
